Levy Mwanawasa Stadium to Host Zambia’s U-23 AFCON Qualifier Against Burundi
The Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) has confirmed the venues for Zambia’s upcoming international fixtures, with the National Heroes Stadium in Lusaka set to host the Egypt 2027 U-23 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Burkina Faso on 15 November 2026.
The confirmation follows approval from the Confederation of African Football (CAF), clearing Heroes Stadium to stage the crucial encounter.
Meanwhile, the senior Chipolopolo’s Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Burundi, scheduled for 13 November, will take place at the Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola.
The announcement was made by FAZ General Secretary Charles Chakatazya, who explained that the initial proposal to move the Burundi fixture to the National Heroes Stadium had fallen through, resulting in the match remaining in Ndola.
Chipolopolo to Host Burundi in Ndola as U-23 AFCON Qualifier Returns to Lusaka
The Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) has confirmed that the Chipolopolo will host Burundi at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola on November 13, 2026, while the National Heroes Stadium in Lusaka has been approved to stage the U-23 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Burkina Faso two days later.
The confirmation brings clarity to the venues for Zambia’s upcoming international assignments, with CAF granting approval for the November 15 U-23 AFCON qualifier to be played in Lusaka.
FAZ General Secretary Charles Chakatazya announced the arrangements, explaining that the association had been unable to secure a change of venue for the senior team’s fixture because of tight deadlines attached to the conditional approval process.
“I wish to confirm that the U-23 home match will be held in Lusaka after receiving approval from CAF and engaging all the interested parties to the match. We are happy that the U23 match opens the way to the return of international matches to Lusaka,” he says.
On the Chipolopolo’s fixture, Chakatazya said the team would remain in Ndola, while FAZ continued working towards bringing senior international matches back to Lusaka in the future.
The general secretary also confirmed that preparations for both assignments were underway, with the association calling on supporters to turn out and back the national teams.
“We are only appealing to fans and the public to fully support our teams by buying tickets available through Computicket and ensure that we make our home ground advantage count,” he says.
The Chipolopolo will face Burundi in Ndola on November 13 before travelling to Bujumbura for the return fixture four days later. Meanwhile, the U-23 side will travel to Ouagadougou for the first leg against Burkina Faso on November 11 before hosting the return match in Lusaka on November 15.
The U-23 AFCON qualifiers will determine the seven teams that progress from the decisive third round to join hosts Egypt at the 2027 finals. The competition will also serve as a qualification pathway to the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games, with the top two or three finishers earning direct qualification.
With both fixtures approaching, FAZ is counting on home support as Zambia pursues positive results in the two qualifying campaigns.
