KUNDANANJI BAY FC STAGES DRAMATIC COMEBACK TO DEFEAT SAN DIEGO WAVE 2-1
Racheal Kundananji and Bay FC produced a stirring second-half comeback to defeat San Diego Wave 2-1 at PayPal Park in Week 10 of their debut NWSL season. This victory snapped a five-game losing streak for the expansion team.
Kundananji, who already has two goals in seven appearances for Bay FC, played the entire match and was instrumental in the comeback. While initially credited with the winning goal three minutes from time, it was later awarded as an own goal to Swedish defender Hanna Lundkvist.
The first half belonged to San Diego. Kyra Carusa found the back of the net in the 23rd minute to put the visitors ahead. However, Bay FC emerged from the break a transformed team. Scarlett Camberos equalized ten minutes into the second half, shifting the momentum in favor of the home side.
Kundananji continued to torment the Waves’ defense, and in the 87th minute, her efforts paid off. After a beautiful low cross from Dorian Bailey, Kundananji’s sliding challenge forced Lundkvist to inadvertently turn the ball into her own net.
This crucial victory marks a turning point for Bay FC. They now have three wins in ten games and climb from 13th to 10th place in the standings with nine points to their name. Coach and players will be hoping to build on this momentum and continue their climb up the NWSL table.
