Janny Sikazwe Heads to Doha for FIFA VAR Instructor Course
Renowned Zambian referee Janny Sikazwe has embarked on a journey to Doha for a FIFA VAR instructors’ course, a significant step in the Football Association of Zambia’s (FAZ) efforts to enhance the skills of officials. Sikazwe, a two-time FIFA World Cup referee and lead consultant on FAZ’s Video Assistant Referee (VAR) pilot project, departed for Doha today to join other esteemed global refereeing figures.
Having officiated at the 2018 and 2022 FIFA World Cups in Russia and Qatar, respectively, Sikazwe expressed his gratitude to FAZ for investing in his skills. “I am extremely delighted to get this opportunity and support from FAZ, who have always made use of my skills, even in retirement. VAR is definitely the future, and we as Zambians must ensure we are in tune with the rest of the world,” he stated.
Sikazwe’s involvement in the VAR technology dates back to FIFA’s pilot project at the Club World Cup in Tokyo in 2018, where he officiated matches featuring top clubs like Real Madrid and Kashima Antlers. His participation in this course is expected to further enhance his expertise and contribute to the development of VAR in Zambian football.
FAZ’s decision to invest in Sikazwe’s skills underscores their dedication to improving officials and staying updated with the latest advancements in football technology. This initiative is anticipated to benefit Zambian football significantly as Sikazwe shares his knowledge and experience with fellow officials, ultimately contributing to the overall growth of the sport in the country.
