Iconic Captain Takes on Ivory Coast’s Top Competitors

Chris Katongo, former captain of the Chipolopolo Boys, attended the CAF Gala night on Friday, graciously hosted by CAF President Patrice Motsepe.

At the event, the 2012 BBC African Player of the Year was seen mingling with football luminaries such as Didier Drogba, Jay Jay Okocha, Daniel Amokachi, and Emmanuel Adebayor.

Katongo was among the distinguished 24 legends invited by CAF to Ivory Coast to partake in the 34th edition of the African Cup of Nations.

During his illustrious playing career, Katongo faced off against Emmanuel Adebayor on two occasions.

Notably, Katongo, who represented teams like Butondo, Forest Rangers, and Green Buffaloes, led Zambia to AFCON glory in 2012.

Finishing the tournament as joint top scorer alongside Emmanuel Mayuka and Drogba, Katongo was rightfully crowned the 2012 AFCON Player of the Tournament.

Currently, the former Brondby and Jomo Cosmos forward serves as the physical trainer for Forest Rangers.
