Grant Urges VAR Implementation After Chipolopolo’s 2-1 Loss to Morocco in World Cup Qualifier
Despite a 2-1 loss to Morocco in the FIFA Group E World Cup qualifier, Chipolopolo coach Avram Grant remains optimistic about the progress of the Zambia National Men’s team. Speaking at the post-match conference, Grant highlighted the team’s improvement in both play and resilience.
“We have improved as a team. I don’t know what will happen, but we will keep fighting until the last game. You saw the team kept fighting even when we were down,” Grant stated. He emphasized the determination shown by his squad throughout the match.
However, Grant also pointed to questionable refereeing decisions as a significant factor in the loss, suggesting that these calls disadvantaged Zambia. “We also played against the referee, who was against us in everything, but we continued fighting,” he added.
In light of these concerns, Grant has called on the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to implement Video Assistant Referee (VAR) technology in future qualifiers. He believes that the introduction of VAR would enhance fairness and accuracy in officiating, thus improving the overall quality of the matches.
Looking ahead, Zambia will face Tanzania on June 11th at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium, with kickoff scheduled for 18:00 hours. Grant and his team remain committed to giving their best in the upcoming fixtures as they continue their World Cup qualifying campaign.
