Grant seeks fewer long passes in the league and enhanced playing surfaces.
Chipolopolo coach Avram Grant expressed his desire for a reduction in the frequency of long balls played in the MTN Super League.
Speaking at a press conference held at Football House on Monday afternoon, the Israeli coach shared his insights on the local league when queried about his perspectives.
Grant commended the league for its competitiveness but emphasized the need for certain improvements, particularly concerning the quality of pitches and the style of play.
He stated, “The league is highly competitive, no doubt about it. However, there are areas that require enhancement. The condition of the pitches needs attention; we must prioritize their maintenance.
Additionally, there should be a greater focus on coaching education. Not because our coaches are inadequate, but they need to stay abreast of current trends and developments.”
Addressing the style of play, Grant emphasized the importance of reducing the reliance on long balls, citing its adverse impact on strikers.
He remarked, “I hope to witness a decrease in the prevalence of long balls. It’s not conducive for the strikers’ performance. There’s room for improvement in various aspects.”
He outlined a three-fold approach to facilitate these improvements, stating, “Initially, we must address the pitch conditions. Subsequently, there should be an increased investment in coaching education.
Finally, a slight adjustment in the style of play would be beneficial for all parties involved. Moreover, given the substantial utilization of local players, such enhancements would be advantageous for the team’s overall performance.”
