Grant must either resign now or wait for his contract to expire.

The Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) wants Avram Grant to resign as the Chipolopolo Boys’ coach, the ZamFoot Crew can exclusively reveal.

However, the 69-year-old insists that he is still the right man to lead the Chipolopolo Boys forward.

Pressure is mounting on FAZ to sack Grant following Tuesday’s 1-0 home defeat to Tanzania. Zambia has now gone 540 minutes without a win.

According to ZamFoot Crew sources at Football House, FAZ wants Grant out but is hesitant to create a financial mess regarding compensation.

“As you might be aware, there’s still Asanovic’s compensation case. If FAZ were to sack Grant, the association would have to pay him for the remainder of his contract,” a ZamFoot Crew source said.

FIFA has ordered FAZ to pay Asanovic about $1.1 million in compensation. The Croatian coach did not complete his four-year tenure with the Chipolopolo.

“Actually, FAZ wanted Grant to leave after the African Cup of Nations, but they are afraid of another FIFA lawsuit.”

With that background, a waiting game could be the more reasonable approach. The former Chelsea and West Ham manager has about six months remaining on the initial two-year deal he signed in 2022.
