Florence Mukokomena: Choma Warriors’ Defensive Queenpin

Choma Warriors Academy captain Florence Mukokomena stands out as one of the club’s most disciplined and longest-serving players.

Playing at the heart of the defense for Team Chopicho, Mukokomena is known for her tight marking, calmness, man-marking skills, and great aerial ability, attributed to her height.

Having been with Team Chopicho for over eight years, Mukokomena has established herself as a reliable and dependable player.

Coming from a footballing family, she follows in the footsteps of her elder sister Zamiwe Mukokomena, who plays for Ndola-based side Indeni Roses.

Florence’s impressive performance in the 2023/24 FAZ/ZPL Women’s National Division One Southern Zone League season made her a player to watch.

Mukokomena was a key player for the Warriors last season, forming a strong defensive partnership with Abigail Munkombwe, a product of Musports Academy, and providing solid cover for former Zambia U17 Women’s National Team goalkeeper Miriam Sikaduli.

Her performances earned her a spot in the Southern Provincial Under-17 squad for the Inter-Provincial Trials for the Zambia U17 Women’s National Team.

In 2019, Mukokomena was also part of the Copper Princesses squad called up for trials alongside her teammates Judith Nalishebo and Astridah Sikaala.

One of her most memorable moments was on March 27, 2021, when she scored seven goals in a single game, leading Choma Warriors to a 16-0 victory over Choma Cabinet Stars in the 2020/21 FAZ Women’s League Choma District match.

Choma Warriors are set to debut in the FAZ Women’s Super Division this season, facing a tough challenge against Green Buffaloes Women Football Club in the 2024 Samuel ‘Zoom’ Ndlovu Carling Black Label Charity Shield final on August 10, 2024, at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola.

The Warriors secured their place by defeating Nchanga Rangers Queens 3-1 in the National Division One Playoffs Final, while Green Buffaloes are the reigning champions of the Women’s Super Division, having won the title for a record fourth consecutive time.
