FIFA’s Infantino Honors 1993 Air Disaster Victims in Zambia Visit

During his first visit to Zambia, FIFA President Gianni Infantino paid a heartfelt tribute to the victims of the 1993 air crash that tragically claimed the lives of most of the Zambia national football team.

The crash, which occurred off the coast of Gabon, remains one of the darkest moments in Zambian sports history. Infantino met with the relatives of the deceased players, offering his condolences and support, recognizing the profound impact the disaster had on the nation.

In addition to the tribute, Infantino inaugurated a new accommodation center aimed at supporting the development of the national women’s and youth teams.

This facility is expected to provide state-of-the-art training and living conditions, fostering the growth of future football talents in Zambia.

Infantino’s visit also included a meeting with the President of Zambia, Hakainde Hichilema, where they discussed the ongoing and future collaborations between FIFA and Zambia to further develop football in the country.

This visit signifies a strong commitment from FIFA to support and uplift Zambian football, honoring its past while looking towards a promising future.
