FIFA Envoy Completes Fact-Finding Mission in Zambia, Final Decision Awaited

The Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) has confirmed the completion of FIFA’s fact-finding mission in Zambia, marking a crucial step towards resolving the ongoing governance crisis within the football association. FIFA dispatched Gelson Fernandes, Director of Member Associations, to investigate the circumstances surrounding the cancellation of the FAZ Annual General Meeting (AGM), a constitutional requirement for football governance.

FAZ President Andrew Kamanga underscored FIFA’s dissatisfaction with the aborted AGM, highlighting concerns over the involvement of non-members who escalated football matters to court. Kamanga acknowledged the impact of the chaos on football management, particularly the failure to approve the 2024-25 budget by the council.

“The aborted AGM has created chaos and setbacks in the management of our game, including the failure to approve the 2024-25 budget,” Kamanga stated.

With FIFA’s fact-finding mission concluded, the association now awaits guidance from the global football governing body on the next steps to restore normalcy in Zambian football. The decision from FIFA is eagerly anticipated as stakeholders seek clarity and resolution to the governance crisis that has plagued the football landscape in Zambia.

As the football community awaits FIFA’s final decision, the FAZ remains committed to addressing the challenges and restoring integrity to the administration of football in Zambia. The outcome of FIFA’s intervention will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of football governance in the country, and stakeholders are hopeful for a swift and equitable resolution to the ongoing crisis.
