FAZ Reports Completion of 50% of FIFA-Funded Stadium Projects

Reuben Kamanga, the General Secretary of the Football Association of Zambia (FAZ), has announced that 50 percent of the FIFA-funded stadium projects have been successfully completed. The latest achievement comes with the conclusion of renovations at the Solwezi Independence Stadium, marking the second of four designated for enhancement.

During a media interaction event in Lusaka on Wednesday evening, Kamanga provided an update on the progress, stating, “The FIFA-funded stadia projects have reached the halfway mark. The Solwezi Independence Stadium has been completed. Chipata underwent renovations earlier, and the next phases involve the Kasama Stadium and the Kaole Stadium.”

The collaborative efforts of FIFA and FAZ are anticipated to culminate in the official handover of the stadium in the coming months. The comprehensive renovation initiative, initiated last year, utilized approximately $300,000 in funding. The extensive improvements covered various aspects, including the pitch, dressing rooms, stands, and other crucial areas, as reported by the ZamFoot Crew.

The David Kaunda Stadium in Chipata was the inaugural facility to undergo substantial refurbishment with FIFA Forward support, officially handed over to the government in September. Upgrades encompassed the pitch, spectator areas, VIP seating, and changing rooms at the DK Stadium.

Currently, two additional projects supported by FIFA Forward are in progress in Zambia. These involve the ongoing renovation of two other stadiums in Kasama and Kaole, spanning different regions of the country. The fourth project is slated for the refurbishment of the FAZ’s accommodation center.
