Emmanuel Katema Knocks Out Sri Lanka’s C. Pathmasiri to Advance

Zambian boxer Emmanuel Katema delivered a commanding performance to secure his place in the Round of 16 at the Commonwealth Games after defeating C. Pathmasiri of Sri Lanka by knockout in their men’s 65kg contest.

Katema looked in complete control from the opening bell, using his speed, power and precision to dictate the pace of the fight. He twice sent his Sri Lankan opponent to the canvas before sealing an emphatic knockout victory just 40 seconds into the third round, leaving no doubt about his superiority in the ring.

The judges’ scorecards reflected Katema’s dominance before the stoppage. Four of the five judges had the Zambian comfortably ahead, scoring the bout 20-18, 20-18, 20-18 and 20-17, while the remaining judge had it level at 19-19. The scores highlighted the control Katema had established long before the decisive finish.

The impressive victory continues Zambia’s strong start to the boxing competition, with Mwengo Mwale also progressing to the next round after winning his opening bout. Katema’s clinical display will boost confidence as he prepares for the challenges ahead, while Team Zambia continues to produce encouraging performances across multiple sporting disciplines at the Commonwealth Games.
