Copper Queens Urged to Approach South Africa Fixture with Caution

Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) president Keith Mweemba has called on the Copper Queens to approach Tuesday’s high-stakes friendly against South Africa with focus and determination, emphasizing its importance in their 2025 WAFCON preparations.

Addressing the team at their Pretoria base, the Anew Hatfield Hotel, Mweemba stressed the need for a strong performance. “This match is more than just a friendly—it’s a critical step in our journey to WAFCON. We must take it seriously,” he said, flanked by FAZ Women’s national representative Col. Priscilla Katoba.

Mweemba rallied the squad to play with confidence and unity. “No fear, no limits—whether it’s Brazil or Germany, respect your opponent but back yourselves. Football has no underdogs anymore,” he declared. “Every player, from the goalkeeper to the attack, must execute their role. Coordination, transition, and mindset will decide this game—and if we get it right, we can win.”

The FAZ chief also threw his full support behind coach Nora Häuptle, promising immediate action on key issues. “Coach, we’ve heard your concerns, and we stand with you. Our executive meeting on June 7 will address them—expect our full backing,” he assured.
