Zambia’s football legend, Christopher Katongo, captain of the victorious 2012 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) team, has been chosen to be part of the esteemed lineup of African football legends representing the Chipolopolo Boys at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.

This selection is part of CAF’s initiative to promote the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations Cote d’Ivoire 2023, wherein each Participating Member Association (PMA) is represented by a football legend with a significant history in continental football. For the host nation, Cote d’Ivoire, two football legends, former captain Didier Drogba and renowned midfielder Salomon Kalou, will represent them.

Christopher Katongo‘s inclusion in the Legends lineup is a tribute to his outstanding contributions to Zambian football and, notably, his leadership that led Zambia to its first-ever AFCON trophy in 2012. The Legends will actively engage in social activations during the tournament, connecting with fans, fostering camaraderie, and contributing to the celebration of African football excellence.

As the anticipation for the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations Cote d’Ivoire 2023 builds up, Christopher Katongo’s presence in the Legends lineup adds an extra layer of excitement for Zambian supporters, offering a nostalgic connection to the historic AFCON triumph in 2012.
