Chisi Mbewe Leads Chipolopolo with Provisional Squad for 2024 COSAFA Cup

Zambia Under-20 coach Chisi Mbewe is set to lead the Chipolopolo at the 2024 COSAFA Cup, scheduled to kick off on June 26 in South Africa. Mbewe has announced a 27-man provisional squad for the regional tournament, which will run from June 26 to July 7 in Gqeberha.

Mbewe’s squad is predominantly composed of local players, with the exception of Al Hilal striker Albert Kangwanda, who is currently on loan at his former club, Red Arrows. The coaching staff includes assistant coach Mwenya Chipepo, physical trainer Donewell Yobe, goalkeeper coach Emmanuel Msichili, and team manager Lombe Chipupu.

The squad features several new and untested players, including 19-year-old Zesco United midfielder David Simukonda and the U20 duo of Mathews Banda and 18-year-old Sekanji Siame, the youngest player in the team.

Zambia, the defending champions, will begin their campaign against guests Kenya on June 27 at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium. They will then face arch-rivals Zimbabwe on June 30 at Wolfson Stadium before concluding their Group B matches against the Comoros Islands on July 2.
