Zambia’s victorious 2012 African Cup of Nations team showcased their skills once again in a thrilling encounter against African Legends at the National Heroes Stadium last Saturday.
Emmanuel Mayuka initially secured the lead for the Zambian legends, but their advantage was nullified by a Kampamba Chintu own goal. The momentum shifted when Cameroon legend Patrick Mbola converted a penalty, propelling the African legends to a 2-1 lead.
Despite the efforts of Collins Mbesuma and his teammates, they found it challenging to breach the defense of Congolese and TP Mazembe legendary goalkeeper Robert Kidiaba. Honorable Kidiaba demonstrated his goalkeeping prowess by denying a late penalty from James Chamanga and withstanding a powerful shot from Clifford Mulenga.
Similar to their 2012 triumph, Zambia once again relied on post-match penalties to secure victory, prevailing 10-9 after Kalusha Bwalya missed the decisive spot kick for the African Legends.
Zambia’s Starting XI: Kennedy Mweene (Kalililo Kakonje) – Davies Nkausu, Hichani Himoonde (Stopilla Sunzu), Kampamba Chintu, Joseph Musonda – Isaac Chansa, Chisamba Lungu (Jonas Sakuwaha) – Christopher Katongo (Clifford Mulenga), Collins Mbesuma, Emmanuel Mayuka (James Chamanga), Rainford Kalaba (Felix Katongo)
