Chipolopolo Climb 7 Spots in FIFA Rankings
The Chipolopolo have made a significant leap in the latest FIFA rankings, moving up seven places globally. Zambia now ranks 87th in the world and 18th in Africa.
Among Africa’s top teams, the reigning African champions, Côte d’Ivoire, are ranked 46th globally and 6th on the continent, while Morocco holds the continent’s top spot, sitting 14th in the world.
Looking ahead to their Group E FIFA World Cup qualifiers, Zambia will face Tanzania, who are currently ranked 106th globally, and Niger, ranked 122nd.
Zambia’s recent rise in the rankings is largely due to their impressive performances in the Morocco 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, where they secured back-to-back wins over Côte d’Ivoire and Sierra Leone.
The Chipolopolo triumphed 1-0 over Côte d’Ivoire and followed it with a dominant 2-0 victory over Sierra Leone, finishing at the top of Group G to clinch a spot in the 2025 AFCON in Morocco.
