Barbra Banda Crowned World’s Best International Goal Scorer by IFFHS!

In a historic moment for Zambian and women’s football, Copper Queens captain, Barbra Banda, has been named the International Federation of Football History & Statistics (IFFHS) Women’s World Best International Goal Scorer for 2023. Following in the footsteps of football legends Ellen White (2021) and Samantha Kerr (2022), Banda has etched her name into history as the third player ever to receive this prestigious award.

Despite finishing second in the Chinese Super League’s goalscoring charts with Shanghai Shengli, it was Banda’s remarkable international exploits that truly shone. The Zambian striker netted a phenomenal 15 goals for her national team, cementing her position as the world’s deadliest markswoman on the international stage. Her prolificacy surpassed even the talented Spanish youngster Salma Paralluelo (14 goals) and last year’s winner, Samantha Kerr (13 goals).

Banda’s triumph is a testament not only to her individual brilliance but also to the rising caliber of women’s football across the globe. Notably, all five continents are represented in the top 30 goal scorers, showcasing the sport’s increasing reach and impact.

Expressing her elation on social media, Banda stated, “Happy to be the third player to win the IFFHS Award of WOMEN’S WORLD BEST INTERNATIONAL GOAL SCORER in 2023.” She further expressed her pride in following the footsteps of White and Kerr, calling them “Women’s Football legends.”

Ever humble and acknowledging the support system that propelled her to the top, Banda offered heartfelt gratitude to her teammates, coaches, and fans. “Thank you to all my teammates for the service and the coaches for the trust and guidance,” she wrote. “To the fans, thank you for always being there for us as a team. This is for all of you.”

Congratulations, Barbra! The world applauds your incredible achievement.
