Barbra Banda Anticipates Challenging Clash with Germany
Banda emphasizes the team’s determination to finish the tournament on a high note, stating that everyone is focused on the upcoming game.
The Orlando Pride forward believes that the team has gained valuable lessons from their previous matches and needs to put in extra effort for their final group game.
“The Germany game will be one of the toughest games. We are hoping for the best and I still believe that as a team we are focused and looking forward to tomorrow’s game. We want to end on a strong note,” she said.
“We have learned a lot from playing against a strong USA team and almost winning our second game but ending up with a loss.
We are now focused on the Germany game. The lessons have been significant; we have all gained experience, understand what is expected, and need to step up our game.”
Reflecting on their past victory against Germany in an international friendly before the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup, Banda remains cautious, noting that football continuously evolves.
“Football has really improved, and we can’t rely on the game we won against them (Germany). We just have to be focused and determined. It will be a very tough game, but we aim to finish the group stage strong,” she said.

After their loss to the Matildas, Banda has been actively encouraging her teammates, believing that team unity is crucial for success.
Banda made history in the match against Australia, becoming the first female football player to score three hat-tricks in Olympics history.
“It’s my job, and I can’t stop encouraging my teammates. It’s a team effort; we need everyone. My message to the team is to stay strong, work together, and learn from our experiences. If we lose, we lose as a team. It’s vital to support each other and address our mistakes. Our technical bench has identified our errors, and we must implement their guidance in the next game,” she said.
“I am proud of my record, but it’s a team achievement. Their support enables my success. I hoped to do more, but it didn’t go as planned. If I get another chance, I’ll strive to make the most of my opportunities.”
