Avram Grant to Unveil Zambia Squad for Malawi Four Nations Tournament
Zambia’s national team coach, Avram Grant, is poised to reveal the squad selection today for the upcoming Four Nations tournament scheduled to commence this weekend in Lilongwe, Malawi.
The tournament, strategically positioned during the FIFA international break, will witness Zambia locking horns with host nation Malawi, alongside Zimbabwe and Kenya. Additionally, the U-20 teams from the participating nations will engage in a parallel competition.
Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) President, Andrew Kamanga, expressed the significance of this tournament, highlighting its role as a vital preparatory phase for the upcoming FIFA World Cup qualifiers in June. Kamanga affirmed the intention to field a formidable squad, capitalizing on the final opportunity before the qualifiers to play two matches and fine-tune strategies.
This tournament marks Zambia’s first competitive action since their participation in the Africa Cup of Nations earlier this year, where they encountered tough challenges in the group stage against formidable opponents such as Morocco and Tanzania – both of whom they are slated to face again in the World Cup qualifiers.
Grant and his coaching staff are keen on leveraging the Malawi tournament to assess players’ performances and experiment with tactical approaches. The competitive environment provided by the tournament serves as an ideal platform for the team to refine their strategies and build momentum ahead of the crucial World Cup qualifying matches in June.
