Avram Grant Takes Chipolopolo Boys to Camp in Saudi Arabia Ahead of AFCON Finals
Zambia, led by coach Avram Grant, is gearing up for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Ivory Coast in January. After securing qualification for the tournament, the team is set to enter camp on December 26 in Lusaka, with both local and foreign-based players expected to be available.
Andrew Kamanga, president of the Football Association of Zambia (FAZ), revealed that the team’s technical bench has outlined a program that includes a local camp in Lusaka. This local camp will be instrumental in selecting the final squad for the tournament, with the team then moving on to an international camp in Saudi Arabia for intensified preparations.
“The local camp will then culminate into an international camp in Saudi Arabia, which will see the team intensify preparations,” explained Kamanga. The FAZ has a history of prioritizing thorough preparations for its teams and is working closely with government authorities to ensure all logistical aspects are well-managed.
Grant and his technical team will have the responsibility of selecting the squad that they believe will perform well in the tournament. Kamanga emphasized that the FAZ’s role is to provide necessary support for the team’s mission, and the budget for the entire AFCON campaign has been deposited at the Ministry of Youth, Sport, and Arts for implementation.
Zambia aims to make a significant impact at the AFCON tournament after missing out on the previous three editions. Adequate preparation, including the camp in Saudi Arabia, is seen as crucial for the team’s performance in Ivory Coast.
