Avram Grant Praises Zambia’s Progress Under His Leadership

Chipolopolo head coach Avram Grant has lauded the significant improvements made by the Zambia National Men’s Team since he assumed the role of Head Coach. In an interview with FIFA reflecting on his 50-year coaching journey, Grant highlighted the team’s enhanced performance on the pitch, emphasizing better organization, solid defense, and cohesive attacking play.

“We have improved a lot in all areas of the pitch,” remarked Grant. “Our game is organized, we defend well, and we attack with all the team. Apart from the game against Morocco, since I came in, we have scored in every game. I am very happy with what we have done – but we need to do even more.”

Grant’s tenure has seen Zambia achieve notable milestones, including qualification for the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) for the first time since 2015, highlighted by a memorable 3-0 victory over Côte d’Ivoire. Despite a group-stage exit at AFCON, the team’s resilient displays against formidable opponents like Morocco offer promise for the future.

Looking ahead, the Chipolopolo coach shifts his focus to the upcoming FIFA World Cup qualifiers, where Zambia aims to build upon their promising start in Group E. Grant acknowledges the challenges ahead, particularly against stronger opponents like Morocco, but maintains a determined outlook.

“They will be big challenges, of course,” Grant acknowledged. “There is no doubt Morocco are stronger than us, but we must never give up. We know our place, but we will give everything.”

Grant expressed confidence that his extensive experience can help propel Zambian football forward, expressing satisfaction with the visible progress while emphasizing the need for continued advancement. As the team prepares for future competitions, Grant remains committed to maximizing Zambia’s potential on the international stage.
