Zambia U20 Women’s Team Returns Home After Goalless Stalemate Against DR Congo
Lusaka, Zambia – The Zambia U20 Women’s National Team has returned home from Kinshasa after a hard-fought, goalless draw against DR Congo in the Colombia 2024 FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup second-round, second-leg qualifier match on Saturday.
Despite the tenacity displayed by Charles Haalubono’s squad, the draw was insufficient to propel them to the third round. The team was eliminated based on the away goals rule following a 2-2 draw with DR Congo in the first leg at Nkoloma Stadium.
The Las Leopards, who managed to advance, will now face Burundi in the next round. Burundi notably knocked out South Africa in a closely contested second-round encounter.
Zambia’s U20 Women’s Team arrived at Kenneth Kaunda International Airport in Lusaka at 01:30 aboard Ethiopian Airlines, where they were welcomed home by supporters and well-wishers.
While the journey in the Colombia 2024 FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup qualifiers may have come to an end for the Zambian side, their dedication and spirited performances have not gone unnoticed. The experience gained in this competition will undoubtedly contribute to the growth and development of women’s football in Zambia.
