Green Buffaloes Name Aggrey Chiyangi As New Head Coach

The dugout at Green Buffaloes FC has a new architect of dreams. Veteran tactician Aggrey Chiyangi, a name synonymous with grit and continental glory, has been handed the reins in a move that signals ambition for the Zambia Army-backed side.

The two-year deal, confirmed ahead of the 2025/26 MTN Super League campaign, ends weeks of speculation—and a three-way tug-of-war for his signature.

At 61, Chiyangi isn’t just a coach; he’s a statement. His arrival marks a fresh chapter for Buffaloes, who bid farewell to Masauso Tembo after a season that never quite found its rhythm. But if history is any judge, Chiyangi knows how to turn uncertainty into triumph.

His legacy was forged at Green Eagles, where between 2017 and 2022, he took a modest Choma outfit and sharpened them into a blade that cut through the league—and beyond. Under his watch, Eagles weren’t just participants; they were disruptors.

A fourth-place finish in 2018 punched their ticket to the CAF Confederation Cup. By 2019, they were runners-up, gatecrashing the CAF Champions League with a swagger that saw them humble Orlando Pirates.

That same year, they stood tall on the podium in Rwanda, bronze medals gleaming at the CECAFA Kagame Cup.

Now, Buffaloes have his blueprint. The question isn’t whether Chiyangi can replicate that magic—it’s how far he’ll take them. One thing’s certain: the MTN Super League just got a lot more interesting.
