Zambia U17 Women’s Team Arrives In Lome For Crucial World Cup Qualifier Vs Benin

The Zambia U17 Women’s National Team has landed in Lomé, Togo, ahead of their high-stakes FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup qualifier against Benin this Saturday.

The squad, led by coach Carol Kanyemba, arrived at Gnassingbé Eyadéma International Airport at 11:11 local time via Ethiopian Airlines. This marks the final hurdle in the Copper Princesses’ campaign to secure consecutive World Cup berths.

Zambia enters the match with a 2-1 aggregate lead from the first leg, thanks to captain Mercy Chipasula’s two-goal performance at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola. The return leg will be played at a neutral venue in Lomé after Benin opted to host their home fixture in Togo.

The winner on aggregate will earn a spot at the 2025 FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup in Morocco this October.

As part of their preparations, the team will conduct a light training session to adjust to the local conditions, with Lomé being two hours behind Lusaka.

Buoyed by the recent success of Zambia’s U17 men’s team, who also qualified for their World Cup, the Copper Princesses aim to stay focused and secure victory on foreign soil.
