Nora Häuptle Poised to Lead Copper Queens as New Head Coach
The Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) has identified Swiss-born coach Nora Häuptle as the leading candidate to take over as head coach of the Copper Queens.
FAZ is reportedly preparing to part ways with long-serving coach Bruce Mwape following a decision made during an Executive Committee (ExCo) meeting held yesterday.
Häuptle has emerged as the preferred choice to guide the national women’s team moving forward.
Häuptle recently turned down an offer from the Ghana Football Association (GFA) due to salary disputes and dissatisfaction with the level of support provided for team preparations.
Reports indicate she was offered a $6,000 monthly salary and a $5,000 bonus but rejected the terms, instead requesting $12,000 per month.
Additionally, the GFA’s inability to secure $40,000 for friendly matches against Tunisia and Senegal further influenced Häuptle’s decision to decline the offer.
Despite these setbacks, Häuptle’s tenure with the Black Queens saw remarkable progress, including an impressive run in the Women’s Olympic qualifiers.
Her team narrowly lost to Zambia—her anticipated future employers—in a tightly contested match.
