FAZ APPOINTS WEDSON NYIRENDA AS CHAN COACH
The Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) has appointed seasoned coach Wedson Nyirenda to lead the Chipolopolo’s campaign for the African Nations Championship (CHAN) qualification.
Nyirenda will be supported by Beston Chambeshi and Moses Sichone as his assistants.
FAZ General Secretary, Reuben Kamanga, confirmed that Chipolopolo head coach, Avram Grant, will play a supervisory role over the CHAN project.
“The Football Association of Zambia has completed the appointments for the CHAN technical bench, with Wedson Nyirenda taking the lead.
He will be assisted by Beston Chambeshi and Moses Sichone,” Kamanga stated.
“As part of our ongoing effort to develop local coaching talent, the FAZ executive committee has selected local coaches to oversee this project.
Coach Nyirenda is currently undergoing CAF Pro License training under the FAZ’s guidance, which is part of our commitment to empowering local personnel.”
Kamanga added that Moses Sichone will serve as a bridge between the CHAN squad and the senior national team to ensure consistency across all national teams.
“For clarity, Coach Avram Grant will continue to provide support for the CHAN campaign, just as he does for all other national teams.
Our primary goal is to qualify for the CHAN tournament, which will be hosted in Uganda, Tanzania, and Kenya in January next year,” Kamanga added.
Zambia’s CHAN qualification campaign kicks off with an away match against Mozambique from December 20-22, followed by the return leg in Lusaka on December 27-29.
The team that triumphs over both legs will secure a spot in the CHAN tournament scheduled for January-February 2025.
