Zambia’s swimming duo, Mia Phiri and Damien Shamambo, have arrived in France ahead of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. This marks a historic moment for Zambian swimming as the two athletes prepare to make their Olympic debut.

Mia Phiri, who has previous experience at the youth level, having participated in the Buenos Aires 2018 Youth Olympic Games, will be joined by Damien Shamambo, Zambia’s fastest swimmer. The duo will be accompanied by Coach Ian Stephenson in Paris.

Phiri and Shamambo earned their spots through universality slots awarded by World Aquatics to compete in the 50m freestyle swimming event. Their qualification follows strong performances at the 2024 World Aquatics Championships in Doha and the Accra 2023 African Games in Ghana.

The Zambian swimming community is excited and hopeful for the athletes as they represent their country on the world stage.
