CAF Introduces Quarterly Referee Training Courses, Excludes Zambian Officials
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) recently announced a new initiative to provide training courses every three months for professional referees.
Last week, CAF released a list of 32 officials selected for the program. Notably, no Zambian referees were included.
These referees will receive regular payments from CAF as part of the initiative.
African referees gained significant recognition for their excellent officiating during the African Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast.
To maintain and enhance the quality of officiating across the continent, CAF has implemented these quarterly training sessions.
Since the retirement of Janny Sikazwe, Zambia has not had a top referee participate in a major tournament
Sikazwe officiated at major tournaments, including the FIFA World Cup and the CAF African Cup of Nations. He also presided over CAF Champions League and Confederation Cup matches, including the finals.
Currently, Diana Chikotesha, Trywell Nyirenda, and Himbaba are the top officials. The trio recently participated in the COSAFA Cup in South Africa.
