HH Calls on FIFA President to Equip Players with Business Skills

Zambian President Hakainde Hichilema on Thursday called on FIFA to implement programs that promote financial literacy and business acumen among football players.

Hichilema emphasized the importance of educating players on financial management to prevent them from facing financial hardships after retiring from the sport

“Enhancing business training for footballers during their prime is crucial. They need to learn how to make their money work for them post-retirement,” he stated during a meeting with FIFA President Gianni Infantino.

He praised FIFA’s investments in football, highlighting the urgent need for such investments in Africa, where youth unemployment is high.

Hichilema noted that football has significantly contributed to community development in Africa, with many players funding the construction of health facilities, schools, and other social amenities.

The Zambian president also underscored football’s role as a unifying force that can foster global unity and love.

In response, FIFA President Gianni Infantino commended Zambia for its football development efforts and promised continued investment in African football.

Infantino arrived in Zambia on Wednesday for a two-day visit as part of his African tour.

During his visit, he plans to engage with various football stakeholders to better understand the challenges facing Zambian football and to explore ways FIFA can offer support and guidance.
