Grant Aims for Second Place Despite Fading World Cup Hopes

Avram Grant, the coach of the Chipolopolo Boys, remains hopeful about Zambia’s chances to qualify for the FIFA 2026 World Cup.

After a disappointing 1-0 loss to Tanzania on match day 4, Zambia’s hopes for a first-ever FIFA World Cup appearance appear bleak.

Morocco’s commanding 6-0 victory over Congo Brazzaville has solidified their lead in Group E. Grant now aims to secure second place as a means to revive Zambia’s World Cup aspirations.

“We’ve assembled a strong team, and despite today’s loss, I’m optimistic about Zambia’s future. Our focus now is on securing second place in the group. With four games remaining, if we maximize our points, anything is possible.

“My aim is to qualify for the Africa Cup of Nations and perform admirably there.”

Zambia has won just one match and lost three in this campaign.
