Barbra Banda Named NWSL Player of the Month for May
Orlando Pride forward Barbra Banda has been honored as the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) Player of the Month for May, an award presented by EA SPORTS and chosen by the NWSL Media Association along with the league’s broadcast talent.
Banda’s performance in her debut NWSL season has been nothing short of remarkable. She netted eight goals and provided two assists in seven matches. Impressively, seven of these goals came in May, including three games where she scored twice, tying a league record. Additionally, she equaled a club record previously set by her teammate Marta in 2017.
The Zambian international has found the back of the net in five of her six starts and currently sits second in the race for the Golden Boot. Over 515 minutes of play, four of Banda’s goals were headers, tying the club record for most headed goals by a single player.
Banda’s exceptional contributions have been pivotal in Orlando Pride’s success this season. The team remains undefeated with an eight-game winning streak, setting a new league record. Orlando Pride tops the league standings with 27 points from 11 matches.
The NWSL Player of the Month award is given each month of the regular season by the NWSL Media Association and the league’s broadcast team, recognizing the top performances across the league.
Congratulations to Barbra Banda for her outstanding achievements and continued excellence on the field!
