Grant Drops Hints for World Cup Qualifier Fullback Picks
Chipolopolo coach Avram Grant acknowledges a challenge in the left-back and right-back positions within his squad.
Speaking at a press conference, Grant affirmed his awareness of the issue and assured that measures were being taken to address it.
Grant hinted at potential solutions, suggesting the utilization of Tandi Mwape at right back and Lubambo Musonda at left back.
He cited the absence of Benedict Chepeshi due to injury and Rodrick’s underperformance, emphasizing the need for resolution.
Grant expressed his discomfort with the situation, stating, “I don’t like the word worried, but it gives me a lot of headache to think about.”
Highlighting individual performances, Grant commended Tandi Mwape’s effectiveness at right back and noted Lubambo Musonda’s regular role in the left-back position for his club.
However, he pointed out the inconsistency of Kebson Kamanga since his impressive display in Malawi, emphasizing the importance of selecting players in optimal condition.
Zambia’s upcoming fixtures include a match against Morocco in Agadir on June 7th, followed by a home game against Tanzania at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium on June 11th.
Currently seated second in group E, Zambia secured a 4-2 victory against Congo Brazzaville on Match Day one but suffered a 2-1 defeat to Niger on Match Day 2.
With automatic qualification for the FIFA World Cup™ 2026 at stake for group winners, the top four runners-up from the groups will compete in a CAF Play-Off tournament.
The winner of this tournament will proceed to the FIFA Play-off Tournament.
