Zambia’s Women’s National Team Coach Accused of Inappropriate Conduct

Bruce Mwape, the coach of Zambia’s Women’s National Team, is facing fresh allegations of inappropriate behavior, this time involving a FIFA contractor during last year’s Women’s World Cup.

According to The Guardian, a FIFA contractor, who wished to remain anonymous, alleges that Mwape touched her breast while the team was staying in Auckland before their match against Spain. The contractor described the incident, stating that Mwape initially put his hand on her shoulder to say “Good morning,” but then proceeded to wipe his hand straight down the front, touching her breast. She expressed discomfort with the incident, which changed the dynamic of their relationship thereafter.

These accusations come in addition to previous allegations made in August 2023. At that time, Mwape was accused of inappropriately touching a player after a training session. The Zambian Football Association (FAZ) had referred claims of sexual misconduct by players to FIFA.

Mwape has denied all allegations in the past, and FIFA is currently investigating both the player’s claims from 2023 and the new accusations from the contractor. The outcome of these investigations will determine the next steps regarding Mwape’s position as coach of the Zambian Women’s National Team.
