Underdog Teams Set to Face Giants in ABSA Cup 2024 Round of 16

The ABSA Cup, the country’s premier cup competition, is set to kick off its round of 16 matches this weekend with some thrilling fixtures on the cards.

This year’s competition has been expanded to include five provincial sides who emerged victorious in their preliminary matches, adding to the mix of National Division One and Super League teams in the last 16.

Fans can expect some David vs. Goliath encounters, such as record winners ZESCO United taking on North Western side Barotse Crocs. Last year’s finalists, FC MUZA, will clash with Lusaka Province log leaders Chirundu United, promising an exciting match-up.

Representatives from Muchinga Province, Mwaimwena Strikers, face a tough challenge against defending MTN Super League champions Power Dynamos. Nkwazi will kick off the round of 16 matches against Indeni, while Red Arrows will host Northern Province representatives, Malalo Police.

National Division One side Atletico Lusaka will face Green Eagles, and Nchanga Rangers will lock horns with Riverplate in other intriguing fixtures.

All matches will be broadcast live on SuperSport 229 Variety 4 and GOtv. The winner of this year’s Absa Cup will take home K800,000, an increase from last year’s K700,000, while K350,000 will be reserved for the runner-up.

Additionally, the Absa Life Player of the Tournament, Top Scorer, and Golden Glove winners will each receive K25,000. The ZAMTEL Man of the Match award for the round of 16 is set at K5,000 and will increase to K15,000 from the quarterfinals onwards.
