Bruce Mwape to Announce Squad for Morocco Games
Zambia Women’s National Team head coach, Bruce Mwape, is set to announce his provisional squad for the final round of qualifiers for the Paris 2024 Olympics. The Copper Queens will face Morocco, hosting them on Friday, 5th April, before traveling to Rabat for the return leg on 8th April.
Mwape is expected to select a blend of locally-based players and foreign-based stars. The team is scheduled to resume training this week in preparation for these crucial matches.
Having overcome Ghana 4-3 on aggregate, Zambia earned their place in the final round, while Morocco secured their spot by defeating Tunisia. The upcoming clash promises to be an exciting encounter.
Barbra Banda and Rachel Kundananji, recent acquisitions in the USA National Women’s Soccer League and the two most expensive female football players in history, are poised to lead the squad. However, Kundananji’s participation is uncertain due to an injury sustained during the match against Ghana, which also caused her to miss Bay FC’s 1-0 victory over Angel City.
Expectations are high for FAZ Women’s Super League top scorers Charity Mubanga and Rachel Moono to receive call-ups, alongside players like Salome Phiri and Tabo Miselo.
Zambia is aiming for back-to-back Olympics appearances, having participated in the 2020 edition in Tokyo, Japan.
