CLATOUS CHAMA LATE GOAL NOT ENOUGH AS SIMBA SC FALL 2-1 TO TANZANIA PRISONS
Simba SC‘s hopes of catching up in the Tanzanian Premier League title race suffered a significant blow as they fell 2-1 to Tanzania Prisons in a dramatic encounter on Wednesday.
Going into the match as favorites following their 6-0 thrashing of Galaxy FC in the CAF Champions League, Simba were dealt a surprise in the closing stages of the first half as Samson Mbangula put the visitors ahead.
With the league title slipping away and needing points to keep pace with leaders Azam FC and arch-rivals Young Africans (Yanga), Simba threw everything at their opponents in search of an equalizer. However, their struggles were compounded in the 61st minute when Mbangula doubled Tanzania Prisons’ lead.
Clatous Chama, who has been in exceptional form for Simba this season, pulled one back for the home side with a late consolation goal. However, it proved to be too little, too late, as Tanzania Prisons held on for a historic victory despite ending the match with ten men following a red card in 88th minute.
The defeat leaves Simba eight points behind Azam and seven points adrift of Yanga, although Azam has played four games more than Simba. The result throws the title race wide open, with Simba needing a significant turnaround in form if they are to lift the trophy.
