We anticipate a challenging contest ahead – Mwape
Zambia Women’s National Team coach, Bruce Mwape, anticipates a challenging match in the third round, first leg of the 2024 Paris Olympics Qualifiers against Ghana’s Black Queens on Friday. The match will kick off at the Accra Sports Complex at 17:00 GMT (19:00 CAT).
Mwape, speaking to FAZ Media, stated that the Copper Queens’ objective is to secure a favorable outcome in Accra to alleviate pressure heading into the return fixture at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium on February 28.
“Tomorrow’s game won’t be easy. We are all fighting to qualify for the Olympics. Our aim is to avoid conceding goals and to be the first to score. Ideally, we want to conclude the game in Ghana,” Mwape emphasized.
He acknowledged Ghana’s tactical discipline and emphasized that his team will not underestimate their opponents.
“I watched them against Senegal, where they won 2-0. They appeared well-organized and in good form. We are aware of their strengths and weaknesses. Our strategy will not be open until we assess their approach, and then we can adjust our tactics,” he added.
Mwape expressed confidence in his squad, which includes a mix of young talent and experienced players from the WAFCON qualifiers.
“Judging by yesterday’s training session, the players performed excellently from start to finish. They are sharp and prepared for the match. I believe they will deliver,” Mwape commented.
The winner of the two-legged tie will advance to the fourth and final round of qualifiers to face the victor between Morocco and Tunisia.
