Zambian Midfielder Susan Katongo Confident Yet Aware of Challenges Ahead in Olympic Qualifiers Against Ghana

Zambia’s midfielder, Susan Katongo, is well aware of the challenges her team will face in the first leg of their 2024 Olympics Qualifiers against Ghana this Friday. Despite the pressure of playing away, Katongo remains confident in her team’s ability to secure a favorable result.

“Playing away, I’m sure we’ll have more pressure,” Katongo acknowledged, speaking from the team’s camp in Lusaka. “But we want to finish the game in Ghana so that when we come here, we just lap up.”

Having debuted in the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, Zambia aims for a second consecutive Olympic appearance. However, Katongo emphasizes the need to approach the match against Ghana with utmost seriousness, warning against underestimating their opponents.

“Ghana has a very good team with experienced players,” Katongo emphasized. “This is an Olympic qualifier, and every team wants to be there, so we have to work hard. We don’t know how they’re preparing, but we need to be ready.”

Ghana’s recent form presents a formidable challenge, having lost just once in their last 12 games. Meanwhile, Zambia remains unbeaten since the World Cup in official matches, showcasing their strength. Despite the teams’ last meeting resulting in a friendly win for Zambia in 2018, Katongo understands the significance of the upcoming match and the need for her team to be fully prepared.

As Zambia faces this crucial test, Susan Katongo’s confidence and determination will undoubtedly play a pivotal role in their quest to bring back a positive result from Ghana.
