Copper Queens to Commence Training Camp for Crucial Olympic Qualifiers Against Ghana
Bruce Mwape‘s Copper Queens are gearing up for their upcoming crucial Olympic Qualifiers against Ghana, with preparations set to kick off on Monday as the team enters camp in Lusaka.
Having last seen competitive action during the WAFCON qualifiers in December, the Copper Queens will convene in the Zambian capital for a week-long training camp. Following this preparation period, they will embark on their journey to Accra for the first leg scheduled on February 23rd. The return fixture will take place at the Levy Mwanawansa Stadium in Ndola on February 28th.
Zambia, as the sole African representative at the 2021 Tokyo Olympics, is eyeing a return to the global stage by securing one of the two available slots for Paris 2024. To achieve this ambitious goal, they must overcome a formidable Ghanaian side in the upcoming two-legged tie.
In anticipation of the high-stakes qualifiers, Mwape unveiled a provisional squad on Thursday, comprising a mix of seasoned foreign-based players and promising talents from the local scene. The training camp will provide an opportunity for Mwape to assess the players’ readiness and finalize his selection for the pivotal showdown against Ghana.
The Ghanaian team enters the qualifiers in formidable form, having suffered just one defeat in their last 12 matches. The Black Queens pose a significant challenge, but the Copper Queens are determined to rise to the occasion and secure their ticket to Paris.
