Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) President, Andrew Kamanga, is optimistic about the positive aspects that can be drawn from the Chipolopolo Boys’ Africa Cup of Nations campaign. Kamanga believes that the players have gained valuable exposure on the big stage, which will contribute to their development in the future.

Expressing gratitude towards the fans for their unwavering support for the team and the KoPa jersey, Kamanga acknowledged the disappointment following Zambia’s first-round elimination from the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations. In his weekly update, “The President’s Corner,” Kamanga emphasized the importance of resilience in the face of challenges and the need to shift focus to upcoming tournaments.

In his statement, Kamanga highlighted the significance of the tournament for a team that had missed out on three previous editions. Many players made their AFCON debut, and Kamanga emphasized the need for exposure on the grand stage, refraining from an in-depth technical review at this point.

Despite the early exit, Kamanga pointed out several positives to build on, expressing appreciation for the overwhelming support from Zambians who rallied behind the team. He acknowledged the unity displayed as Zambians embraced the KoPa kit in solidarity with the Chipolopolo, both on the streets and in various sectors.

Looking ahead, Kamanga outlined the focus on the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers scheduled to resume in June, featuring back-to-back fixtures against Morocco and Tanzania. The preparation for these fixtures will take place during the March FIFA window, with Kamanga assuring the commitment to quality preparations for international matches.

Reflecting on the recent international camp in Saudi Arabia, including a friendly against Cameroon, Kamanga expressed confidence that the lessons learned from AFCON will shape the team’s future endeavors. The anticipation for the 2025 AFCON draw in the coming month adds to the team’s determination to return stronger for the next edition.

The Chipolopolo Boys faced early elimination in the group stage, securing only two points from three games in Group F. Notable results included a 1-1 draw against DR Congo and Tanzania, as well as a 1-0 loss to Morocco, the 2022 World Cup semi-finalists.
