Chipolopolo Striker Gamphani Lungu Scores Consolation Goal in Supersport United Defeat

In a Round 16 fixture, Chipolopolo striker Gamphani Lungu showcased his goal-scoring prowess by netting the only goal for 10-man Supersport United. Despite his efforts, the team ultimately succumbed to a 3-1 defeat away to Richards Bay FC on Saturday.

Lungu, who was part of the 55-man provisional squad for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations but didn’t make the final cut, continued to make an impact in South Africa. He opened the scoring for Supersport United just 18 minutes into the game with a penalty. However, their joy was short-lived as 19-year-old defender Ime Okon received a red card in the 37th minute, reducing the team to 10 men.

Richards Bay FC capitalized on their numerical advantage, equalizing four minutes later to level the score 1-1 at halftime. They took control in the second half, scoring two more goals in quick succession – one just two minutes after the restart and another in the 81st minute.

Despite the defeat, Supersport United holds the second spot on the log with 29 points, trailing leaders Mamelodi Sundowns by six points. The leaders have three games in hand, making the race at the top of the table highly competitive.
