Copperbelt Chess Stars Head to National Trials in Lusaka

The Copperbelt Chess League Association (CCLA) has arranged transportation for qualified players from Copperbelt province to Phase II of the National Trials scheduled to take place at Fairview Hotel in Lusaka. A 72-seater Marcopolo bus from Chembe Transport, led by the company’s director and Guest of Honour at the recently concluded Copperbelt Open Chess Championship, picked up players from Kitwe and Ndola stations.

The CCLA Chairman expressed confidence in the team’s success, encouraging them to replicate last year’s achievements where Michael Kaoma broke into the National team. He promised future enhancements to restore Copperbelt’s chess powerhouse status.

The formidable Copperbelt province team includes talents such as FM Prince Daniel Mulenga, CM Darlington Nyimbili, Chimanya Greenwell, Boniface Ngonga, Thomas AKA “Dangote” Zulu, Mukosha Joshua, Ndhlovu Dumisani, Chasaya Terence, Wence Bwalya, and Kasapo Jackson in the men’s category.

In the women’s category, the lineup includes WCM Daisy Zaza Simenda, Mwenya Beauty, Chishimba Gladys, Kunda Hope Mpundu, Thonga Winfridah, Mtine Joy, and Mwinsa Kabwe. The team is expected to be back on Sunday, December 31, 2023.
