In his annual “state of the league” address preceding the MLS Cup final between Columbus Crew and Los Angeles FC, Garber anticipated North America becoming the “epicenter” of the sport, given the upcoming hosting of major events like the World Cup, Copa America, and Fifa Club World Cup in the region. However, he acknowledged the logistical challenge of accommodating all club and country competitions.
Garber emphasized the impact of Messi’s decision to join MLS, highlighting the global significance of having a World Cup champion and eight-time Ballon d’Or winner playing in the league.
The partnership with Apple TV under a new 10-year streaming deal was also recognized for expanding the league’s viewership.
