2026 Transitional League Format Officially Revealed by ZPL

The Zambian Premier League (ZPL) wishes to inform all its stakeholders and the general public that the 2026 Transition League will tentatively commence on 12 September 2026 and conclude in December 2026

The Transition League forms part of the implementation of the new football calendar and will be conducted under the following format:

The MTN Super League will be divided into two streams based on their final positions in the 2025/2026 MTN Super League table, with clubs placed according to their odd and even league positions.

The Women Super, Men National and Women National Divisions will for the duration of the Transitional League, be played on a regional basis (North and South).

Following the conclusion of the Transition League, the Men National Division and the Women Super Division will revert to their national formats for the commencement of the full 2027 season, while, the Women National Division will continue to be played on a regional basis.

These changes were approved by the ZPL Board during their last meeting held on 24th July,2026.

The Zambian Premier League will communicate all the fixtures in due course.

The League appreciates the continued support and cooperation of all stakeholders as we transition to the new football calendar and remain committed to delivering a competitive and professionally managed football season.
