2012 AFCON Legends Dominate Musicians 9–2 In Memorial Social Game
The REIZ Arena witnessed a high-scoring charity exhibition match on Wednesday afternoon, as the 2012 AFCON Legends delivered a commanding 9–2 victory over the Legendary Musicians.
The event served a dual purpose: commemorating the 33rd anniversary of the tragic 1993 Gabon Air Disaster, while also celebrating the birthday of Zambia’s first Republican President, the late Dr. Kenneth Kaunda.
Former Chipolopolo striker Collins Mbesuma emerged as the standout performer, netting a clinical hat-trick to lead the 2012 squad’s offensive charge.
Further contributions came from Clifford Mulenga, who scored a brace, alongside singles from Felix Katongo, James Chamanga, and Given Singuluma. In a rare highlight for spectators, goalkeeper Kalililo Kakonje also found the net, successfully converting a second-half penalty.
Despite the lopsided scoreline, the Legendary Musicians mounted a spirited resistance. Moses Chipili, known professionally as Mozegeter, opened the scoring for the musicians from the penalty spot in the first half. Substitute Abel Chungu Musuka later added a second goal deep into the second half.
According to organizers, the match extended beyond the final whistle. It forms part of an ongoing initiative led by the Zambia Association of Musicians (ZAM) aimed at fostering industry unity and raising awareness on critical social issues, including substance abuse and mental health.
