Simon Tembo Heroics Inspire Indeni to 1-0 Victory Over Mathkat United

Simon Tembo finally made his long-awaited senior debut for Indeni FC in the ZPL Men’s National Division Northern Zone Week 2 encounter against Mathkat United FC in Mansa, and marked the occasion with a memorable performance.

A product of Indeni’s youth system, Tembo was nurtured through the Young Indeni ranks under the guidance of Joseph Kaseya, Steven “Weah” Tembo and Allan Chibwe before earning promotion to the senior team in 2022 ahead of the 2022/23 National League campaign.

Now in his fifth season with the senior team, Tembo has been part of the Indeni side that secured promotion to the Super League in 2024, as well as the team that earned qualification for the ABSA Cup.

When his opportunity finally arrived, the goalkeeper made the most of it. Tembo kept a clean sheet on his senior debut and produced a standout display between the sticks, including a penalty save from former teammate Martin Phiri, as Indeni secured a crucial 1-0 victory over Mathkat United.

The winning goal came in the 11th minute through Gilbert Bwembya, with Titus Bwalya providing the assist.

A clean sheet, a penalty save and three points made it a dream senior debut for Tembo, particularly with his boyhood club.

After years of patience and hard work, the goalkeeper finally had his moment to shine for the Oilmen.
