Copper Princesses Lose 3-0 to China in World Cup Preparations

Zambia’s Copper Princesses suffered a 3-0 defeat to China in an international friendly played in Casablanca, Morocco, as preparations continue for the 2026 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup.

The match was goalless at half-time, with China creating several chances in the opening 45 minutes. Liu Yuxi came closest to breaking the deadlock in the 15th minute when her curling effort struck the post, while goalkeeper Bukata Kakumbi also made important saves to keep Zambia in the contest.

Zambia made three changes at the start of the second half, introducing Prodia Mwiinga, Misozi Phiri and Gift Mazimba for Jessica Johnson, Esther Ngabwe and Dorcas Mulosha.

However, the Copper Princesses fell behind in the 47th minute following a mix-up between Mazimba and Kakumbi, resulting in an own goal that gave China the lead.

Zambia attempted to respond, with Precious Mwewa threatening with a header from a corner before Grace Phiri saw an acrobatic effort saved.

China doubled its advantage in the 69th minute through Yang Yuhan, who finished after receiving a pass from Zheng Niman.
