Argentina kept their title defense alive with a hard-fought Round of 16 win over Egypt at the FIFA World Cup 2026, advancing to the quarter-finals after a dramatic contest filled with key moments at both ends.

Egypt took an early lead and remained competitive throughout the match, with both sides trading attacking spells in a tense knockout atmosphere. Argentina responded strongly in the second half, producing crucial goals that shifted the momentum in their favor.

The match also featured high drama from the spot, as Lionel Messi saw his penalty saved by Mostafa Shobeir, but the Argentine captain later made his mark with a decisive goal contribution as his side completed the comeback.
