Zambia’s Copper Queens Land in Morocco’s Group C with Nigeria, Egypt, Malawi

The Zambia Women’s National Team, the Copper Queens, have been placed in a challenging Group C for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco. They will face formidable opponents, including defending champions Nigeria, Egypt, and neighbors Malawi.

The official draw, conducted in Rabat, has assigned the Copper Queens to the Larbi Zaouli Stadium in Casablanca for their group stage matches.

The tournament’s complete group draw is as follows:

  • Group A (Rabat): Morocco (hosts), Algeria, Senegal, Kenya.
  • Group B (Rabat): South Africa, Côte d’Ivoire, Burkina Faso, Tanzania.
  • Group C (Casablanca): Nigeria, Zambia, Egypt, Malawi.
  • Group D (Fes): Ghana, Cameroon, Mali, Cape Verde.

Scheduled to run from March 17 to April 3, 2026, the WAFCON carries high stakes: the four semi-finalists will automatically qualify for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil.

The Copper Queens will be aiming to secure a return to the global stage, having made their historic World Cup debut at the 2022 edition in Australia and New Zealand.

The tournament will be played across four venues:

  • Moulay Al Hassan Stadium (Rabat)
  • Al Madina Stadium (Rabat)
  • Larbi Zaouli Stadium (Casablanca)
  • Complexe Sportif de Fes (Fes)
